XBLA Takes $240 Million In Transactions
During the company’s recent Gamefest event, Microsoft executives have revealed the Xbox Live Arcade service has taken $240 million since its launch.
According to Gamasutra, Microsoft’s Interactive Entertainment Business manager Kevin Salcedo announced: “Right now, we have over 12 million users in over 26 countries with $240 million in transactions revenue so far, with $180 million in the last 12 months alone.”
He also revealed trends suggesting DLC gives retail titles a significant boost. Microsoft’s data shows games with paid downloadable content, provided this content arrives within the first 30 days, sell roughly $21 million more at retail.
Additionally, titles with DLC designed to improve a game’s longevity spend longer periods of time in the consumer’s collection. “On average, titles that have downloadable content on XBL Marketplace have seen a 16 per cent [longer] period of people holding onto that title, which keeps them from selling to second hand stores,” Salcedo said.
