Facebook is a massive community that is free for its subscribers and it makes money through publicity and banner advertising.
Users can choose to join one or more networks organized by city, job or school, creating profiles that contain personal interests and information, photos, notes and videos.
It offers many other services that allow users to sends and receive text messages, comment on friends’ photos, write on their notice board, play different games online and use chat services.
Recent statistics say that the average number of friends for a user is about 120 and women are more active socially.
Facebook was at the centre of several controversies recently about privacy because fake profiles of celebrities were created but, despite everything it remains popular.
Another popular social network is MySpace that currently is the most visited site in the world after Facebook.
Created in 2003, this community initially created to promote music bands, has opened the doors to show business to many musicians who have become famous before their album came out in the market.
Now, the users of this community can creating their personal spaces, post blogs and photos, use applications, listen to music and watch videos.
It is also possible to use another popular application in MySpace called Twitter, a micro blogging service created in the 2006 that you can add to your MySpace page for send updates of your status using short text messages from the official Twitter site or using the specific applications.
Social Networks aren’t just a temporary fashion, but are a real innovation and means of modern communication that allow you to stay in contact with your friend and meet new people.
